The Jones House & Studio #1, 1938, A. Quincy Jones and Ruth Schneider Designer/Builders. Shortly after graduating from architecture school at the University of Washington, Jones brought fellow architecture student Ruth Schneider down to Los Angeles where he they were married a year later. While still apprenticing with architect Burton A. Schutt they designed and built their first house, a duplex set naturally within the native chaparral high on the western slope of Laurel Canyon. Reflecting the philosophy and many of the design ideas Jones would continue to develop throughout his career, the building is iconic. After the war Jones converted the buildings to a single family residence, where he established his first design studio. The current owners have been using the property as a duplex once again.

ZIP averages use publicly displayable closed sales from our licensed MLS feed, matched to the same ZIP and exact property type. Months with fewer than 3 sales are omitted; the current month is incomplete. Lines connect available monthly observations across gaps and do not represent measured prices in missing months. These averages are not adjusted for size, condition, or location within the ZIP, and are not an appraisal. Feed coverage may not include every sale. All available shows the available home and ZIP history, with mortgage rates over the same dates.
Mortgage benchmark: Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey®. © Freddie Mac. Weekly national 30-year fixed rates, not APRs or a loan quote. Actual terms vary. Methodology changed in November 2022. The chart does not establish that interest-rate changes caused a home’s price changes.
Lines connect recorded asking and sale prices. They are visual guides, not estimates of the home’s value between those dates.
No earlier records were returned by our current sources. This does not mean the home has never sold.
MLS records may be incomplete. Earlier asking prices are not sale prices.
