Cardiff-By-The-Sea is a charming, beautiful and historical Northern San Diego County beach community. Located in Encinitas, it borders Solana Beach to the South, the Pacific Ocean to the West with Encinitas on its East and North. With a population of less than 12,000, Cardiff-by-the Sea operates as a community of the City of Encinitas with its own zip code (92007). In 1875 the first family came to Cardiff. The MacKinnons from Cleveland cultivated the North shore of the San Elijo Lagoon into farmland. In 1909, a Boston developer, J. Frank Cullen, purchased the land from MacKinnon and began selling plots of land for as little as $30. In 1910, it is told that Cullen initially wanted to give his little town a Spanish name, but his wife, a native of Cardiff, Wales, persuaded him to name the community “Cardiff”, as well as many streets such as “Birmingham”, “Oxford”, “Chesterfield” and ”Manchester”. The by-the-Sea” was added to the name by German musician Victor Kremer, who took it from the song “By the Beautiful Sea.” Today, Cardiff is an eclectic mix of long-time residents, worldwide tourists, business professionals, artisans, families, and individuals of all ages seeking to live the California Dream. The Verdi Pedestrian Rail Undercrossing project is underway to provide a safe way for pedestrians and bike riders in Cardiff to cross the railroad tracks to access South Coast Highway 101 and the beach. ZIP averages use publicly displayable closed sales from our licensed MLS feed, matched to the same ZIP and exact property type. Months with fewer than 3 sales are omitted; the current month is incomplete. Lines connect available monthly observations across gaps and do not represent measured prices in missing months. These averages are not adjusted for size, condition, or location within the ZIP, and are not an appraisal. Feed coverage may not include every sale. All available shows the available home and ZIP history, with mortgage rates over the same dates.
Mortgage benchmark: Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey®. © Freddie Mac. Weekly national 30-year fixed rates, not APRs or a loan quote. Actual terms vary. Methodology changed in November 2022. The chart does not establish that interest-rate changes caused a home’s price changes.
Lines connect recorded asking and sale prices. They are visual guides, not estimates of the home’s value between those dates.
